The 1.2 mt/a ethylene plant, part of Jilin Petrochemical Company's Oil Refining and Chemical Transformation and Upgrading Project, has achieved mechanical completion, marking a milestone achievement in the project's construction. Officially launched in February 2022, the plant is set to be progressively completed and handed over between 2024 and 2025. Once fully operational and reaching designed capacity, the project will achieve an annual total chemical product output of 5.28 million tons.
PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical Company's transformation and upgrading project involves a total investment of 33.9 billion yuan. It includes the construction of 21 new refining and chemical units, such as the 1.2 mt/a ethylene plant and a 600kt/a ABS unit, as well as the modification and expansion of 28 major facilities, including a newly built and upgraded 3.8 mt/a atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit.
The 1.2 mt/a ethylene plant is the core facility among the 28 newly built and upgraded units in the transformation project. It will annually produce 1.2 million tons of polymer-grade ethylene and 587,000 tons of polymer-grade propylene. Upon commissioning, Jilin Petrochemical's total ethylene capacity will reach 1.9 mt/a, positioning its ethylene production and chemical scale at the forefront of China's domestic industry.
