China's Tsingshan Holding Group has commenced operations at its $1 billion investment Dinson Iron and Steel Company (Disco) in Zimbabwe, Africa.
The plant has initiated pig iron production with an expected annual output of 1 million tons of steel. Plans are in place to begin producing plain carbon steel in July, with the first phase projected to yield 600,000 tons of carbon steel annually.
Disco aims to produce 600,000 tons of products in Phase 1, increasing to 1.2 million tons in Phase 2, 3.2 million tons in Phase 3, and ultimately reaching an annual production capacity of 5 million tons in the final phase.
