The total investment of the third phase of the CNOOC Shell ethylene project in Huizhou is approximately 52.1 billion yuan. Centered around a 1.6 mt/a ethylene cracking unit, the project will construct 18 sets of chemical facilities, public utilities and supporting facilities. These include a 1.6 mt/a ethylene unit, a 305kt/a butadiene extraction unit, a 1.46 mt/a cracking gasoline hydrogenation unit, an 1.1 mt/a aromatics extraction unit, a 645kt/a ethylene oxide-ethylene glycol (EO-EG) unit, a 600kt/a metallocene linear low-density polyethylene (mLLDPE) unit, a 400kt/a linear alpha olefin (LAO) unit, a 130kt/a isomerization and disproportionation (ID) unit, a 130kt/a Shell hydroformylation (SHF) unit, a 50kt/a polyalphaolefin (PAO) unit, a 500kt/a polypropylene (PP) unit, a 1 mt/a ethylbenzene (EB) unit, a 450kt/a polyether polyol (DMC-POD) unit, a 100kt/a polymer polyol (POP-POD) unit, as well as supporting storage and transportation facilities, public utilities, auxiliary facilities, and environmental protection facilities, etc.
On December 3, 2024, the IMPT of the third phase of the CNOOC Shell ethylene project held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 1.6 mt/a ethylene quadruple machine project at the SEI in Beijing, marking the official launch of this largest ethylene plant project under construction in China.
