On May 28, the CSPC Huizhou Phase III Ethylene Project kicked off the civil construction and installation of its 1.6 mt/a ethylene plant.
The Phase III project will construct a 1.6 mt/a ethylene unit, 16 downstream chemical plants, as well as utilities and ancillary facilities. Upon completion, CSPC’s ethylene production capacity will reach 3.8 mt/a, maintaining its position as China’s largest ethylene monomer production base. The project will also optimize integration with existing Phase I and II chemical and refining facilities, further enhancing operational synergy and resource efficiency.
The project introduces multiple technologies being deployed for the first time in Asia and China, with seven units adopting Shell’s proprietary processes. It will supply over 5 million tons of chemical products annually—including metallocene polyethylene and polypropylene—effectively meeting domestic market demand for high-end chemical products.
