On April 28, 2024, construction commenced on the 500kt/a propane deasphalting unit under the lubricant restructuring project of PetroChina Karamay Petrochemical Co., Ltd.
Covering nearly 10,000 square meters, the unit is situated south of the third propane deasphalting unit and north of the second propane deasphalting unit. It comprises subcritical extraction, supercritical solvent recovery, asphalt-deasphalted oil (DAO) flash evaporation, DAO stripping, and heating furnace systems.
Utilizing paraffinic vacuum residue as feedstock, the unit employs SEDA (Solvent Extraction Deasphalting) technology to produce deasphalted oil. It simultaneously optimizes feedstock for three existing high-pressure hydrotreating units to increase production of BS bright stock oil and premium white oil.
On June 30, 2025, the intermediate handover was achieved for the construction project of the 500kt/a propane deasphalting unit within Karamay Petrochemical’s lubricant structure optimization initiative.
