The unit is included in the CSPC Huizhou Phase 3 Project. The project has a total investment of 52.1 billion yuan, including 18 sets of chemical production facilities. The proposed ethylene cracking unit is one of the world's largest cracking units.
Seven of the facilities in the project use Shell proprietary technologies, and four of them are the first time such technologies have been used in China, including the production of alpha-olefins, synthetic alcohols, and synthetic lubricant base oils. The project will also build world-class polyolefin and high-end polyether polyol facilities.
After the Phase III project is completed and put into operation, the total ethylene capacity of CNOOC Shell will reach 3.8 million tonnes per year, accounting for about 8% of China's total ethylene capacity last year. After subsequent processing, CNOOC Shell can provide a total of more than 11 million tonnes of petrochemical products to the market each year to meet the demand for scarce petrochemical products in China.
